The much-anticipated Padma Bridge will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on June 25 at 10 a.m. Padma will be honored with a bridge named after her.
After departing Ganobhaban on Tuesday, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters this.
"Everyone is keen in knowing when the much-anticipated Padma Bridge will be opened," the bridge minister told media waiting at the Ganobhaban. That is the wonderful news I am delivering to you.
Deshratna Sheikh Hasina, Bangabandhu's daughter and Prime Minister, will open the Padma Bridge on Saturday, June 25 at 10 a.m.
The toll rate for crossing the Padma Bridge has already been set by the government. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges released a circular on May 17 that set varying toll charges for various kinds of transportation. According to the government's decision, crossing the Padma Bridge will cost Tk 2,400 for a large bus and Tk 2,800 for a medium truck.
The Ministry of Bridges emailed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a proposal on April 28 to approve the proposed toll fee for the Padma Bridge. Following clearance by the Prime Minister's Office, it was published as a notification. The Prime Minister's Office has authorized the toll rate recommended by the bridge department, according to the announcement.
Padma bridge (main bridge) is 6.15 kilometers long. The length of the two-way flyover (viaduct) is 3.68 kilometers. The bridge spans a total distance of 9.83 kilometers. The Padma Bridge project is expected to cost Tk 30,193 crore to complete.
