The fuel going to Myanmar for use in civilian aircraft is being used for military purposes. The London-based international human rights organization Amnesty International has alleged that the country's air force is involved in war crimes. This complaint was made by the organization on Thursday.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the junta took power in February last year. Various rebel groups are fighting the junta alongside the anti-coup People's Defense Forces. Human rights organizations have alleged that the country's air force is committing war crimes by attacking civilians. Amnesty released a new report monitoring the destination of jet fuel.

Opposition leader sentenced to 148 years in prison

Meanwhile, a court in junta-ruled Myanmar has sentenced the leader of the country's National League for Democracy (NLD) party, Win Myint Hlaing, to 148 years in prison on charges of terrorism. Earlier, the 52-year-old leader was jailed for various crimes. In all, he was sentenced to 173 years in prison. He was sentenced last Monday. In February last year, the country's junta overthrew the government of Aung San Suu Kyi. This is the highest sentence given to a member of Suu Kyi's party since then.

Magwe District Court, 480 kilometers from Yangon city, sentenced Win Mint to 148 years on eight charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Earlier, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for five crimes including incitement to terrorist acts in March, April and June. However, he was in jail when the charges against him occurred.

The trial of political leaders in Myanmar is not made public. So the doubt remains as to what kind of evidence is produced against the accused. Magwe Prison, including Win Myint Hlaing, said long-term inmates are kept in chains. The junta government hanged four royal prisoners last July. Earlier, Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced to 26 years in prison. However, her supporters say that this measure has been taken to keep Suu Kyi away from the election.
