Padma bridge is expected to last for at least 100 years. The government believes bridge upkeep to be critical at this time. Toll collection will be used to cover the cost of the bridge's construction.

The bridge department has agreed to establish a state-owned business to operate the Padma bridge, which will be responsible for bridge maintenance and toll collection. The Bangladesh Bridge Authority's board of directors decided to launch the business last month.

During the construction of the Bangabandhu Bridge over the Jamuna River, the government established the 'Jamuna Bridge' implementation authority. It was later designated as the bridge authority. The bridge authority is a bridge department agency. It also houses the Muktarpur Bridge.

Similarly, a move has been made to establish a new business to manage the Padma Bridge on its own. However, some bridge authority executives believe that increasing the bridge authority's capability without creating new corporations is sufficient. Creating a new corporation has significant costs.

Except for the contracting company's staff and consultants, the Padma Bridge project currently employs 95 people. There are 32 senior jobs among them, including project director. They are drawn from a variety of government departments, including the Ministry of Public Administration, the Department of Roads and Highways (RHD), and the Railways. They will return to their respective departments once the project is completed. Some people will have to retire.

The Padma Bridge project employs 63 individuals in various roles, including Assistant Director, Deputy Assistant Director, Accountant, Data Entry Operator, Driver, and Office Assistant. Their positions are temporary. They urged that the position be kept on a permanent basis.

Despite efforts to incorporate new firms, the maintenance and collecting of tolls on the Padma Bridge will remain the responsibility of the existing companies. Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) of South Korea and China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a contractor working on the Padma Bridge, have been entrusted with the project for the next five years. In five years, they will receive 693 crore rupees. The contractors will be supervised by the bridge authorities.

Officials from the Bridges Department believe the company's formation will necessitate a number of legal and institutional procedures. That preparation is currently underway. After then, it will go through a series of procedures, including manpower recruitment.

The reason for handing over toll collection and maintenance of the Padma Bridge to foreign corporations for the next five years, according to a bridge department official who did not want to be identified, is that the government wants to develop companies or improve the bridge's capacity.
