Imam after Babar is the first such achievement in the history of Pakistan. |
When was the last time Pakistan cricket had such a terrific period? It's a question of research! Even though there are occasional splashes of failure, Babar Azam's team has been penning success stories one after another on the field.
Only a few days ago, it was announced that India had climbed to fourth place in the ODI rankings. Babar Azam, the captain, has passed Indian superstar Sachin Tendulkar for the highest rating point of his career. Tendulkar's highest rating during his career was 887, whereas Babar's was 891. It has risen considerably higher. Babur, who is currently ranked first among batsmen in ODIs by the ICC, has an ICC rating of 898.
But, thanks to the two, Imam-ul-Haq is also in amazing rhythm, which is a rare feat in Pakistan cricket. In the ICC ODI batsmen's rankings released today, Babar is ranked second. According to the ICC, two Pakistani batters at the top of the ICC rankings have never been seen before.
Pakistan defeated the West Indies 3-0 in the three-match ODI series two days ago. Imam was ranked third in the world before the series, behind India's Virat Kohli.
Imam's bat has scored half-centuries in each of the three matches against the Windies, and his rating points have risen as well. Of course, Imam's innings of 50 or more runs in the preceding four matches are the reason for these three matches. Imam has blasted 50 runs in seven consecutive innings. Pakistani legend Javed Miandad holds the record for the most half-centuries in nine innings.
Imam had 795 rating points going into the series, while Kohli had 811. With 891 rating points, Babar came out on top.
Kohli had the same number of 811 rating points as Imam after two innings of 65 and 72 in the first two matches, and then surged to number two in the rankings. Imam's rating has grown by 4 points greater than Kohli's after another 72-run innings in the third ODI on Sunday (815).
Babar is in first place with 898 points, followed by Imam with 815 points in second place... In ODIs, Pakistan has never had two of its own batters in the top two batting rankings.
Aside from the Babar-Imam and Pakistan news, the batsmen's ranks in ODIs haven't altered much.
Only the numbers 9 and 10 have been replaced by two Australians: Aaron Finch at No. 9 and David Warner at No. 10. Mushfiqur Rahim is ranked 16th, while Tamim Iqbal is ranked 20th. Shakib Al Hasan (25) and Liton Das (22) are among the 30. (30). Another Bangladeshi in the top 50 is Mahmudullah, who is rated 37th.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, is ranked among the top 10 ODI bowlers. In the top 50, only Mostafizur Rahman (17) and Taskin Ahmed (35) are ranked. Chris Oakes of England has dropped two places to No. 7 in the top ten rankings, while Yashpreet Bumra of India and Mujib Ur Rahman of Afghanistan have moved up to No. 5 and No. 6 respectively. Trent Bolt of New Zealand is in first place.
In the top ten all-rounder rankings, nothing has changed. Shakib is at the top of the heap.
