In Bangladesh, an experimental Corona vaccination program for primary school students (5-11 years old) will begin on August 11. This was stated by Health Minister Zahid Malek. According to the health minister, following the experimental vaccination program, the full-fledged vaccination program for children will begin on August 26. The Health Minister made the remarks following a World Breast Milk Week program at Nipsom Auditorium on Sunday (7 August 2022).


On July 30, Pfizer's special Corona vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years was introduced in the country. On that day, 15 lakh 2 thousand 400 doses of Pfizer vaccine were delivered. Last April, the government announced the decision to vaccinate children aged 5 to 11. The work of preparing the list of children is being carried out through the concerned educational institutions with the assistance of the Ministry of Education. There are an estimated 2 crore 2 million children of this age in the country.


The health department has obtained 4 crore 10 lakh vaccines for them. Children will be vaccinated twice. According to Directorate of Health sources, Bangladesh has received this vaccine through the Covax facility.


Today, the health minister addressed the country's corona situation. "Most of those who are dying of corona now have not taken the corona vaccine or the second dose of corona," Zahid Malek said.


In the country, 20 lakh 7 thousand 119 people have been diagnosed with corona. Corona has cured 19 lakh 47 thousand 307 people. Corona has claimed the lives of 29,304 people so far. On March 8, 2020, the first corona was discovered in Bangladesh. Since then, the number of corona infections in the country has fluctuated several times.


Concerning the country's vaccination situation today, the health minister stated, "The vaccines we have will soon expire." Those who have not received the vaccine should receive the first dose, those who have received the first dose should receive the second dose, and those who have received the first dose should receive the booster.
